Hixson Named Dean of Frostburg State University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Dr. 金正日Hixson has been named the dean of Frostburg State University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Hixson comes to Frostburg from Utah State University, where he was department head f或者是 Journalism and Communication Department.
Hixson has had a long career in advertising and promotion, as an academic department chair in two different regional comprehensive universities and as a state representative in the Wisconsin legislature. He has been responsible for both radio and television station programming as department chair, and he has a strong commitment to vibrant liberal arts education as a participant in the Association of American 大学 and Universities’ Liberal Education and America’s Promise (LEAP) initiatives.
“Dr. Hixson comes to us with significant experience both inside the academy and outside of it,” said Dr. Elizabeth Throop, FSU provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. “His work life has been a fascinating mixture of education, politics and journalism, and he brings sophisticated knowledge of various curricular, 人员, scheduling and budgeting models. Dr. Hixson also brings a well-rounded set of personal qualities, not least of which is his affable personality.”
“Frostburg seems to be very much open to different ways of doing things and having new programs,希克森说. “It’s this idea that new programs can be created that will meet the needs of students, the state and community. The world changes, and universities have to change along with the world.”
Hixson’s experience includes developing programs that cross the boundaries of traditional academic departments, pulling the best resources from each to develop interdisciplinary majors that prepare students for emerging fields.
Hixson has been active in networking with alumni and community members to strengthen the academic units he has served. He is also an active scholar, with publications under review currently as well as a long list of scholarly work published in peer-reviewed journals as well as presentations at national conferences.
His doctorate in journalism is from Southern Illinois University, with a bachelor’s degree in advertising and writing and a master’s degree in professional writing from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
